Start-Up of Biological Treatment Plant in South Korea

NORAM BioSystems has commissioned an integrated wastewater facility for the treatment of effluent from a mononitrobenzene (MNB) plant.

The bio-treatment plant forms part of a complete process train, including effluent treatment, for a 150,000 tonne per year facility delivered by NORAM to HuChems Fine Chemicals Corporation, in Yeosu, South Korea.

The bio-treatment plant is the second part of a two-stage process in which a nitrophenol waste stream from the MNB plant is broken down hydrothermally, and then treated for complete biological nutrient removal. The particular challenge of this bio-treatment plant was the removal of very high concentrations of nitrogen to low discharge levels.
