The City of Xingping, Shaanxi, China has become the latest operator of NORAM's patented Vertreat™ wastewater treatment technology. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, NORAM BioSystems completed delivery of a 50,000 m3/day facility, which went from design to operation in little more than a year.
NORAM's Vertreat™ design is based on a biological activated sludge system, distinguished by a low operating energy profile and high performance. Two 3.2 metre (10.5 ft) diameter underground shaft reactors enable a very small design footprint.
The Xingping plant was designed to treat both municipal wastewater, as well as industrial effluent from a neighbouring fertilizer facility. The increased ammonia load is accommodated in the design through integrated biological nutrient removal. Treated water from the facility is eventually planned for irrigation re-use.
The Vertreat™ plant is the first to address concerns around the heavily polluted Wei River, and is ultimately expected to be mirrored on the site as development in the region progresses.
