MNB Plant Takes Its Place Amongst World’s Largest

February 10, 2015

A mononitrobenzene (MNB) plant supplied to Wanhua Chemical in China is capable of producing over 530,000 metric tonnes per year of MNB, making it one of the largest in the world. The plant also marks the largest implementation of NORAM’s new MNB product purification technology.

NORAM supplied the technology package, including the design, proprietary equipment and commissioning services for the plant, located near the city of Yantai in the Shandong province of China. The plant was brought into production in the second half of 2014, and has demonstrated full rate production while meeting all specifications.

In addition to meeting growing demand, the new facility will allow the decommissioning of an older, less efficient MNB production facility. The additional MNB product is destined for use as an aniline, and ultimately MDI, feedstock in the new Wanhua Chemical complex at Yantai. Wanhua Chemical is China’s number one MDI producer, with over 1 million metric tonnes per year of installed MNB capacity utilizing NORAM’s nitration technology.
